BARGOT
The Story of BARGOT
An Encounter in Trastevere
In the summer of 2014, in Rome’s Trastevere district, a single game of chess changed the way we understood perfume.
Outside the building where we were staying, we met an older gentleman whose elegance was expressed above all through his composure and quiet confidence. He invited us to play a game with him and, with little effort, outplayed us.
As he explained the moves we had failed to see, he spoke about the importance of making the right choice at the right moment. He then noticed the perfume one of us was wearing and explained that fragrance was much like chess: it was not enough for it to be good - it had to suit the person, the time and the occasion.
That simple observation opened the door to a world we had barely known until then.
Entering the World of Fragrance
We soon discovered that he was a devoted connoisseur of perfumery who created fragrances out of personal passion. He invited us into his attic studio, filled with bottles, raw materials and compositions at different stages of development.
When he opened the door, we were greeted by the scent of rose - deep, pure and understated. He spoke of perfumes as invisible signatures, capable of awakening a memory, changing a mood and revealing something about a person before they had spoken a single word.
Before we left, he said:
“Perfumes are not created for the market, because that is how they lose their soul. Perfumes are created for the hearts of those who seek eternity in a moment.”
Only later did we understand that it was not merely his knowledge of perfumery that had captivated us, but also the way he carried himself. He made no effort to leave an impression, yet he was impossible to forget. His confidence did not come from a need to dominate, but from complete command of his own choices and actions.
In him, we recognised the idea that would become the essence of BARGOT: true majesty does not come from a title. It comes from within.
The Birth of BARGOT
We founded BARGOT in 2020 with the desire to create perfumes that would not follow passing trends, but possess a distinct character and identity of their own.
That same year, we began developing our first compositions. Over the years that followed, every detail was carefully reconsidered - from the balance between individual notes to the way each fragrance develops on the skin and the trail it leaves behind.
Once we were certain that they fully expressed our vision, we introduced our first two fragrances: His Majesty and Her Majesty.
Their names do not speak of titles or power over others. They represent a man and a woman who know who they are, make their own decisions and determine the course of their lives. To us, being the king or queen of one’s own life means, above all, being in command of oneself.
The name BARGOT was created by combining parts of the first and last name of Bardomiano Gotto, the man who introduced us to the world of perfumery. In doing so, we paid tribute to the encounter from which it all began.
The BARGOT Philosophy
To us, perfume is never merely an accessory. It is part of one’s identity, an invisible signature and a choice that speaks to the character of the person wearing it.
That is why every BARGOT composition seeks a balance between strength and subtlety, distinction and elegance. As in chess, every element must have a purpose and every note its place.
BARGOT is created for those who know their worth and feel no need to prove it to the world.
Every BARGOT perfume begins with our story.
But it is only on the skin of the person wearing it that it finds its true meaning.
